"Building Awareness About Eating Disorders" invites participants to build understanding and awareness of Eating Disorders through two short poetry-based films that depict different lived experiences. Participants are invited to read and reflect on an overview of the different types of eating disorders as well as an resource that reviews how treatment works. This knowledge can then be used to help understand the perspectives of the films' protagonists and guide conversation. The first film of this class tells the story of one young woman's eating disorder. Participants will have the opportunity to connect the film to what they've learned and reflect on their insights. The second film tells another story that includes disordered eating, fat phobia, and bullying. Taking these two films as jumping off points, participants will explore how eating disorders can present differently for different people. The class concludes with an opportunity to brainstorm ways to support ourselves and others.
