Define and identify personal support systems and design supportive responses for others
"Building Awareness About the Mental Health Impacts of Sexual Violence" invites participants to explore this complex topic through two short films: a drama depicting a young woman’s fragmented and traumatic memory and a dance and poetry film capturing the tension between fear and desire. Participants will first engage with overviews of sexual violence and consent to deepen their understanding of the films' protagonists. After each screening, structured prompts will guide reflection on the mental health impacts of sexual violence. The session concludes with a review of survivor resources, a discussion on identifying safe confidants, and ways to support survivors with compassion.
Note: This class includes supplementary materials that can be completed at the start of class or assigned as homework. If assigned as homework, the class duration may be approximately 15 minutes shorter.
