"Building Awareness About PTSD" invites participants to explore one woman’s experience with post-traumatic stress disorder through a short film depicting an extended PTSD flashback from a car accident caused by drunk driving. To deepen understanding, participants will engage with two key resources: an overview of PTSD symptoms and treatment options, and a guide on how to support loved ones living with PTSD. The class concludes with a reflective free-write, encouraging participants to explore the conditions that help them feel safe.
Notes:
- This class includes supplementary materials that can be completed at the start of class or assigned as homework. If assigned as homework, the class duration may be approximately 15 minutes shorter.
- This Class is made up primarily of individual work, done together. The film in this class does not include any "resolution" to the PTSD being shown. Class participants will therefore spend time reading two different resources as well as complete an independent, private free-write in order to have the space to process what they've seen. The intention of this class is to build compassion and empathy around experiences of PTSD without overwhelming participants.
