"Building Awareness About Depression" invites participants to deepen their understanding of depression through two powerful films that portray lived experiences with the condition. Guided by an overview of symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options, participants will use this knowledge to explore the perspectives of the films' protagonists. The first film, a drama, immerses viewers in one woman’s experience with depression, using cinematography, music, and voice-over to express her emotions, followed by guided reflection. The second film, also a drama, depicts a teenager struggling with her mental health before finding the courage to open up to a friend. The class concludes with an opportunity to identify meaningful strategies for supporting ourselves and others when facing depression.

Note: This class has an optional Supplemental Resource that can allow for more time spent learning about supporting friends' and family members' mental health. Please plan to add at 15 minutes to the class time if you plan to incorporate this resource.
